Decorating your wedding cake table

Hmmmm cake. One thing that seriously puts a smile on my face no matter what time of day or night it is. And if it´s a cupcake from Warren of Little Lola´s Cupcakes, I´m in heaven. That man is the Cupcake King. At the last wedding I decorated (which will appear on my blog soon) I was carting my goodies in when Warren and his lovely wife appeared from behind a tower of cupcakes. What I didn´t expect though was a box of cupcakes just for me!! Seriously, Warren knew I would be working there and had made me my own cakes. How special did I feel?! And obviously so chuffed that I would be scoffing cake for that whole weekend yay!

Anyway, I digress but it does bring me to my subject matter today - decorating your wedding cake table. Cutting your wedding cake is one of tradition and it always appears in your wedding photos so why do some couples treat it as such an after-thought and opt stick it in the corner of the room? Your wedding cake should be just as exciting as the other fun elements of your day as they are so versatile. You can incorporate your cake into a full-on dessert table and surround it with other nibbles, sweeties and goodies for your guests to enjoy throughout the event. Or have a traditional cake and put a spin on it with a crazy topper and surround it with candles and flowers. Or be totally minimalist and place it  upon textured and luxurious linens.

It´s something to have fun with and make part of the overall event. Personally I love cupcakes especially when they are part of a dessert buffet. Guests come and go as they please nibbling here and there and chatting as they do so. It´s all very sociable. Adding personal elements to a dessert table ie photos of the bride and groom, funky sweets that you both loved as kids, your Gran´s favourite cake stand etc takes it to a whole new level too. Hmmm, talking of cakes has made me really crave one. Now where is Warren´s number....?!

Autumn beach weddings

As the weather has turned cooler recently I thought I would share some autumn beach wedding inspirations with you. Don´t get me wrong, the weather certainly isn´t cold by any standard (it´s 17 degrees right now and the sun is shining)  but it´s crisp in the mornings (cardi required), pretty hot during the day (summer dress) and a bit nippy in the evenings (cozy shrug) which for some couples is a perfect time of year to get married as the hectic tourist season is over, the scorching summer sun has disappeared and the atmosphere down here is more chilled out.

In terms of colours my favourites for beachy celebrations this time of year are soft pinks, cream, gold and chocolate as they are light and airy but the gold and chocolate in the right places adds warmth and depth. As the sun sets earlier now too candles and fairy lights really come into their own as the light fades and the romance continues. A nice idea as the stars come out is to give your guests pashminas so they can snuggle up if they feel like it and they can double up as a favor for the ladies too. We love practicality and functionality!

Kids Halloween party inspirations

In our house the kids have been counting down the days to Halloween since the first glimpse of Halloween outfits, decorations, trick blood etc appeared on the shelves in our local shops in September. 22 days ago to be precise. With ´only´ 23 more ´sleeps´ to go, their outfits have been carefully chosen and tried on a dozen times. The girl is doing ´Monster High meets Sabrina the Teenage Witch´s Cat´ (can´t remember his name) and the boy is quite simply ´a scary clown with green hair´.

Halloween is a big event at our house as our neighbours in the urbanisation where we live make a huge effort dressing up, ´trick or treating´ and generally having a great time. All of our kids´ friends love to come to our house for the occasion so I go all out to give them a good time. This year I am planning a ´Cats and Bats´ theme for the house decor and party table. Usually the kids cannot wait to get out in the urbanisation to do some trick or treating so the food comes in handy when they are tired and thirsty after gathering all their loot.

The parents don´t get left out though, they are treated to red wine aka ´Bats Blood´. Purely to get into the party spirit of course ;)

Indian wedding extravaganza : Sneak peek!

Crazy times here at the moment for the Gorgeous team as weddings are in full swing and we are LOVING every minute of it! A couple of weeks ago we were involved in a 3 day Indian wedding extravaganza for American couple Jesal and Samit who flew 80 family and friends over from around the world. It was a huge event organised to perfection by Lisa from Bella Weddings in Spain and executed fabulously by all involved.

The first day was a ´Neon Pool Party´ theme where guests were invited to relax in the Sierra Blanca villa in Marbella that the family rented for the weekend and chill out by the pool while eating, drinking and being merry before the hardcore partying began.

The second day, the Sangeet celebration, was a ´Moroccan theme´ affair where chill out areas were created with tons of comfy scatter cushions and shisha pipes. The guests partied into the night thanks to the DJs flown in specially from the States who got the guests well and truly into the mood.

The third day was the wedding day. The ceremony was held at Puro Beach in Estepona on the beach and afterwards guests were invited back to the villa to carry on the celebrations in style.

More details and info to follow! We have been promised some professional photos from the bride´s sister, Binita, who just happens to be a photographer but in the meantime here are a couple of my snaps of the ´welcome´ table that we created for the ´Pool Party´.
